Alaska CU League Donates $10,000 to Assist Federal Employees Affected by Shutdown
January 17, 2019
Anchorage, Alaska –The Alaska Credit Union League (ACUL)—a volunteer-run professional organization that works to advance relevant industry legislation, education, and awareness for credit unions across the state—provided a $10,000 donation to the Armed Services YMCA to help provide service to federal employees affected by the government shutdown.
The historically long shutdown is impacting more than 5,200 Alaskans and their families. While the individual credit unions are already providing support to their members through special programs, this will provide an added benefit to fellow Alaskans, giving them some type of financial normalcy during this uncertain time.
“The ACUL as a whole is banding together to provide additional support to our fellow Alaskans during this time of need,” said Dan McCue, ACUL President. “This shows our Alaskan credit unions truly displaying our people helping people philosophy.”
The Armed Services YMCA will be facilitating the distribution of the donated funds to the federal employees who need assistance. For affected families residing in Alaska who are far from the ASYMCA’s physical locations, the ASYMCA encourages them to reach out by phone at 907-552-9622, or by email at welcome.center@akasymca.org, to see how they can provide food security assistance in your area.
“The federal employees of Alaska, who do so much to keep our society running safely and smoothly, are now faced with the extraordinary stresses of how to keep their own families sheltered and fed,” said ASYMCA Marketing Director, Lita Miller. “That is why the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska has made the decision to open our Food Pantries to furloughed or work-without-pay federal employees who can access our facilities on JBER, Ft. Wainwright, and Ft. Greely.”
