ORNL FCU Recognizes Local Artists in Community Art & Mural Program
January 3, 2019
We are a member-owned, not-for-profit community credit union. That means profits are paid back to you with higher savings rates and lower loan rates.
In the spring of 2018, ORNL FCU introduced a new community arts opportunity, the Community Art & Mural Program. It provides local artists and school art programs the opportunity to showcase their creativity in a unique fashion: by painting a large structure visible from a main access road in Oak Ridge.
Entries were submitted in all categories (K-4th grades, 5th-8th grades, and 9th-12th grades) and the winners had their designs painted by local artist, Bryan Wilkerson. The artwork is displayed on the campus of ORNL FCU’s main headquarters located at 221 S. Rutgers Avenue.
Along with teachers, art educators, local media, and local officials, ORNL FCU recently recognized the winning student artists:
- Current second grade students at Glenwood Elementary School collaborated on a design to win the K-4thcategory. Each student received a small prize and the Glenwood art department was awarded $600. (Jonathan Purtill, art educator)
- Chatelaine McBroom, current 6th grader at Robertsville Middle School, submitted the winning design for the 5th-8th category. She was awarded a $100 Visa gift card and the Robertsville art department received $500. (Sean Seyfert, art educator)
- A 2018 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, Bryce Guzman submitted the winning design for the 9th-12th category. He received a $100 Visa gift card and the Oak Ridge High School art department received $500. (Gisela Schrock, art educator)
Congratulations to these talented student artists and the schools!
