Peach State FCU Partners with Purple Heart Homes to Help Local Veteran
December 11, 2018
Snellville, GA (December 10, 2018) – Home renovations for veteran, Aqueelah As-Salaam, have been completed as part of Purple Heart Homes’ annual Operation: Veteran Home Renovation program.
As-Salaam was an Officer in the U.S. Army, serving from 1974-1987. “I’ve been struggling to make these repairs for six years,” said Ms. As-Salaam. “Money has been tight since I had to quit my job due to my disabilities, so this is a true blessing.”
Operation: Veteran Home Renovation was established to raise awareness about the housing challenges faced by service connected disabled veterans.
“Purple Heart Homes has partnered with Peach State Federal Credit Union for the third year in a row to sponsor a local veteran enabling her to live safely and with dignity in her home, said John Gallina, Executive Director and Co-founder of Purple Heart Homes. “We are grateful for the support provided by Peach State Federal Credit Union, Home Depot, the contractors and volunteers to help us improve veterans’ lives one home at a time.”
Improvements and repairs to her home included building a ramp in her garage, repairing exterior wood and gutters, exterior painting, and landscaping.
“Our work with Purple Heart Homes is important to me on a personal level,” said Peach State President/CEO Marshall Boutwell. “As a Vietnam veteran, I understand the challenges faced by veterans, and I’m proud of our partnership with Purple Heart Homes. Operation: Veteran Home Renovation has become an important part of our commitment to serve the Peach State community.”
Peach State also works with Purple Heart Homes to help veterans secure mortgages and participating in this program was a logical extension of those efforts. Many veterans live on fixed incomes and may have service connected disabilities, so maintenance on their homes can sometimes prove challenging and difficult.
