(CHARLESTON, S.C.) – 12/10/2018 – – Heritage Trust recently donated over 20 laptops to CodeOn Charleston, a local not-for-profit organization that teaches youths in underserved communities how to write code and program computers. This donation will provide the organizations mentors the tools they need to effectively facilitate classes. Participants will learn valuable skills that will empower them to pursue careers in the information technology sector.

Charleston, known locally as Silicon Harbor, is home to over 250 tech firms. Heritage Trust representatives currently sit on several area boards that work to address the talent gap between school districts and local employers that are seeking qualified applicants to fill positions in their growing companies. Through this donation, Heritage Trust is able to assist CodeOn Charleston in bridging the gap by helping expose young students to career paths with high paying wages.

“As a local member-owned financial cooperative, Heritage Trust is passionate about giving back to the community.  We were excited to work with CodeOn Charleston to make this donation and help support such a great cause. Our employees are always looking for ways to give back and this opportunity was a great fit with our organizations core value of People Helping People,” commented Dustin Haynes - Heritage Trust Public Relations Officer.
