What happens when 175 credit union employees focus their attention on 11 Vermont non-profits in 5 days?
Our community gains awareness of our neighbors’ needs while enthusiastically responding with financial support, donated items and goodwill.
Burlington, VT – During the week of October 22, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union held its first annual “Cares Week” to fundraise and highlight the work of local non-profits in northern Vermont. Twelve branches paired with home office staff to raise funds for and awareness of important causes including homelessness, animal welfare, poverty, hunger, health, and youth and family services.
The public was invited to stop by any branch and learn about the good works of these featured non-profits: Alburgh Public Library, Cornerstone Field, The Veterans’ Place, New Farms for New Americans, Colchester Community Food Shelf, Central Vermont Humane Society, Riverside Rescue, North Country Animal League, Halo Foundation, Umbrella, and Spectrum VT
A total of $9,220.27 was raised during NorthCountry Federal Credit Union’s Cares Week.
Branch activities included raffles, bake sales, a chili cookoff, golf putting contests, silent auctions, and collections of winter clothing, gardening equipment, food and household supplies. Administrative employees were teamed up with branches to further fundraise with unique activities. Several local businesses donated items to help in fundraising.
“We wanted to make an impact on the communities we serve in Vermont,” says Bob Morgan, CEO, NorthCountry. “With Cares Week, we challenged our staff to create intriguing activities to raise awareness, collect needed funds, volunteer and support local non-profits. Our employee’s enthusiasm and commitment to help our neighbors was heartwarming. We hope we have made a difference in our communities, not just during Cares Week, but every day.”
