Rapid City, SD – With their member’s support, employees at Black Hills Federal Credit Union were able to contribute much needed supplies, donations, and volunteer time to a variety of nonprofits in their communities this October.

As part of a Community Action Team project to benefit the Cornerstone Rescue Mission in Rapid City, employees raised nearly $900 through a jeans day fundraiser and additional contributions. (Photo above) They also collected blankets for the nonprofit, which provides food, shelter and resources for homeless individuals.

“With the Cornerstone Rescue Mission just down the road from our Downtown Member Service Center, we often see first hand the daily impact the organization is making in our community,” said Amanda Grohs, co-chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team project for the Cornerstone Rescue Mission. “This winter, we’re proud to support their efforts to ensure individuals in our community have a warm and safe place to stay.”

Employees also helped package food for Feeding South Dakota’s Mobile Food Pantry stop at General Beadle Elementary School in Rapid City. In Pierre, they donated $500 to Pierre Area Referral Service (photo right) and helped package hundreds of easy-to-prepare meals and snacks for the organization’s BackPack program.

This November, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the South Dakota State Veterans Homes, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Autism Society of the Black Hills, Operation Black Hills Cabin and Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services).

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations throughout the year. You can get involved with and stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s current CAT projects by following BHFCU on Facebook.
