On fixed and often tight budgets, sometimes students’ board plans simply aren’t enough. Some students don’t have a meal plan at all. Food insecurity is easily found on college campuses across the nation, and the University of North Dakota is no exception.

That is why University Federal Credit Union on the UND campus, in partnership with the UND Staff Senate, is collecting non-perishable food items for the “Food for Thought” campus food pantry now through October 2nd. The food pantry was started with a $5,000 budget in the spring of 2018. It is located in the student union building on campus and is available for student and student families in need.

The pantry is stocked with a variety of nonperishable food items and personal care products that are free for student patrons. Whether the need is lunch for the day or groceries for the week, the UND Food pantry serves its students accordingly.

Nanci Wilson, Marketing and Campus Outreach specialist at University FCU visited the pantry last week. “I was in absolute awe of the thought, dedication, and organization that UND has placed into this assistance for students,” she stated. Wilson and other employees of the credit union are hoping to be added to the volunteer rotation at the pantry, assisting students in gathering their needed items.

Nonperishable food items or personal-care products can be dropped off at either of University FCU’s locations: 2901 University Ave Stop 8222 on the UND campus or 1575 17th Avenue South in Grand Forks. Monetary donations are also needed and appreciated and can be mailed to the UND Alumni Association, 3501 University Avenue Stop 8157, Grand Forks ND 58202. Please reference 67459 in the check memo. University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) was founded in 1937 and serves University of North Dakota (UND) faculty, staff, students, and their immediate family of members. Organizations of members, employees of the ND School for the Blind who work in Grand Forks, civilian and military employees of the US government and employees of the State of ND who work on UND’s campus are also eligible to join. The credit union holds more than $34M in assets and has approximately 3,700 members. To learn more visit universityfederalcu.org.
