Credit Union Teaches Basics of Financial Literacy
May 17, 2013
Studentsin West Linn are getting a lesson on the basics of money over the coming month and are putting that lesson toward a good cause.
Nearly 50 fourth- and fifth-graders got a visit from representatives from Clackamas Federal Credit Union to learn the basics of "financial literacy."
With their own loans the kids will begin fundraising campaigns to benefit three charities, which include Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, Just a Drop (an international non-profit that delivers clean drinking water), and a scholarship for the school.
The credit union is aiming to challenge the kids with their first business venture and give them a financial guide that prepares them for dealing with money in the future.
Students will again get a visit from credit union representatives at the end of May and will revisit their strategies for managing the money and talk about how the charities were affected by their fundraising.
