GRAFTON _ With Springs arrival this month, the Community Harvest Project, Inc. (CHP) started its 2013 growing season and its staff reflected on the many special people and organizations that made 2012 such a stellar year. CHP honored those who made significant contributions at its Second Annual Celebration, held on April 24, 2013 at the Brigham Hill Community Farm on Wheeler Road in North Grafton.
Grafton Suburban Credit Union (GSCU) was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in the Adult category for its outstanding dedication to Community Harvest Project, Inc., according to its Executive Director Kristin Bafaro.
"GSCU has been instrumental in our two annual fund-raising events over the past few years. They have managed all of the financial transactions for Plantapalooza and Harvest Home," Bafaro said, adding that GSCU has sponsored Harvest Home for the last six years.
Plantapalooza is an annual plant sale held each May that offers a huge selection of annuals, perennials, herbs, and vegetable plants. Harvest Home is a Harvest Festival held each November and offers a day filled with hay rides, live music, pony rides, games, food, and fun for the whole family. Both events are held on the Community Harvest Project grounds in North Grafton.
"Many, many GSCU volunteers have spent countless hours before, during and after the events preparing, serving as cashiers and accountants counting cash, batching credit card transactions, etc. We couldnt do it without them," Bafaro added.
"We consider the Community Harvest Project one of our most valued community partners and we share their ideals of both supporting and enriching our region," said Daniel Crossin GSCU Real Estate Supervisor. "Organizations like the Community Harvest Project enhance the lives of people within our community."
