NEW YORK CITY -- Municipal Credit Union (MCU) members and staff teamed up with the NYPD and members of their youth Law Enforcement Explorers program on Saturday, September 8th at Jackie Robinson Park and Playground in Bedford-Stuyvesant to volunteer and celebrate their neighborhood park and public spaces as part of NYC Parks’ It’s My Park program. MCU volunteers helped with repainting handball courts, cleaning up litter, and weeding and gardening of the park.
“We are thrilled to continue our participation in NYC Parks’ It’s My Park program and bring our members and staff together along with some great young leaders from the NYPD Explorers Program to volunteer and beautify our community,” said MCU Acting President/CEO Norman Kohn. "With more than 10,000 members living in the surrounding communities of Jackie Robinson Park and Playground, we hope that many of our members – and all residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant and the surrounding communities – enjoy this great public space and the outstanding work done every day by the New York City Parks Department.”
Participation in the park cleanup is part of MCU’s corporate social mission to partner with New York City agencies and give back to the communities it serves. This is the second time MCU has volunteered with the It’s My Park program. The credit union began participating in the program in August, with volunteers beautifying Graniteville Quarry Park in Staten Island, and have scheduled an additional volunteer clean-up date for this year on Saturday, September 15th at Elmhurst Park in Elmhurst, Queens.

NYC Parks’ It’s My Park program was established to create opportunities for local communities to come together and celebrate their neighborhood parks and public spaces through volunteerism. The NYPD Law Enforcement program provides young men and women from the city's diverse communities with an introduction to a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. The program, geared for ages 14 to 20, often results in strengthening ties between the community and police. Explorers are taught the importance of higher education, self-discipline, and respect for diversity and human dignity through training, involvement in community service projects, and other Exploring events.
