Electro Savings Credit Union’s School Supply Drive Makes Positive Impact on Lives of Students with Donations to Over 50 Local Teachers

St. Louis, MO (September 5, 2018) Everyone has at least one teacher who has inspired them over the years. Electro Savings Credit Union values all the teachers who work each day to inspire their students.

To celebrate those hardworking educators, Electro Savings donated over $30,000 in school supplies to area teachers to support their students. The proceeds came from Electro’s third annual back-to-school supply drive. The credit union extends its gratitude to all its employees, volunteers and members who donated, including an anonymous credit union member who donated a large truck-full of supplies.

Teachers visited the credit union’s Maryland Heights branch to shop for free supplies that would best suit their students’ needs. Nearly every teacher that came to shop stated they spend hundreds of dollars of their own money each year to prepare their classrooms. “Many people do not realize that students do not usually have the necessary supplies to be their best each school year,” said Mike Rice, teacher at Madison Senior High School in Madison, IL. “The teachers, the caring individuals that we are, purchase the supplies with our own money, and have them available to the students throughout the year, as needed.”

Deborah Peebles is a consultant teacher with St. Louis Public Schools and is currently working with 10 new elementary school teachers in the inner city schools whose students range from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. “These supplies were more than supplies. They are a way to meet a need for our students, a way to say to teachers that I know you are going to spend; I can lighten the load a little bit.”

Electro’s Community Development Specialist, Laura Mugge says, “We gladly support the teachers of our communities in any way we can. We had so much fun working with these teachers to help stock their classrooms.”

Electro Savings, organized in 1941 by the employees of Union Electric (now Ameren), is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution. The credit union is a member of the Credit Union Shared Branch Network and CO-OP ATM Network. Membership in Electro Savings is available to individuals who live or work in St. Louis City and St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson counties in Missouri. As well as, Jersey, Madison, St. Clair and Monroe counties in Illinois. For more information, visit www.electrosavings.com/about.
