Western Chapter of Credit Unions Donates $11,000 to Meals on Wheels

Hendersonville, NC – August 30, 2018 The Western Chapter of The Carolinas Credit Union League recently donated $11,000.00 to Meals on Wheels organizations in Western North Carolina. The funds were raised in a cooperative effort by twelve Credit Unions in our local area who joined forces to hold their 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
During a meeting on August 28th at The Cascades Mountain Resort in Hendersonville, the proceeds were split between Meals on Wheels organizations in Buncombe County, Brevard/Transylvania County, Henderson County, McDowell County, Jackson County and Haywood County.
The tournament was held on Friday May 11th, 2018 at Cummings Cove Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC. “Our sponsors, players, volunteers, and member credit unions stepped up again this year in a big way,” said Steve Clark of United Federal Credit Union. “Thanks to everyone’s efforts we were able to present Meals on Wheels with our largest donation yet,” Clark added. There were 26 teams for a total of 104 golfers who played in the tournament. The afternoon rains held off just long enough, until the last group was in the clubhouse.
Credit Unions follow the 7 Cooperative Principles which includes “Concern for Community.” This means that they frequently work together for the sustainable development of their communities. The Credit Unions involved in this fundraiser are United Federal Credit Union, WNC Community Credit Union, Ecusta Credit Union, McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union, State Employees Credit Union, Oteen VA Federal Credit Union, Mountain Credit Union, Self-Help Credit Union, Telco Community Credit Union, Champion Credit Union, Premier Federal Credit Union and Arcade Credit Union.

Credit Unions in North and South Carolina are members of the Carolinas Credit Union League. They are also part of thirteen regional chapters, each an autonomous, subdivision of the league. Chapter membership aids them in the advancement of credit unions' purpose through local and regional means.
