Service Credit Union Packs School Supplies for Children in Need
August 10, 2018
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Service Credit Union (SCU) volunteers spent their Monday packing school backpacks with needed supplies at the Concord Boys and Girls Club. This effort capped off a very successful second-annual WMUR Pack-a-Pack drive, which collected more than 2,700 backpacks statewide. SCU kicked off the drive with 100 backpacks.
SCU partnered with WMUR, the New Hampshire Food Bank and the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Hampshire for this worthy cause. SCU members and those from the community recently dropped off backpacks with pencil sharpeners, colored pencils, No. 2 pencils, erasers, student scissors, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, 12-inch plastic rulers, ballpoint pens and two-pocket folders to SCU branches across New Hampshire.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs in N.H. is so grateful to be the beneficiary of the Pack-a-Pack drive. The people of N.H. have once again demonstrated their willingness to help their fellow neighbors in need,” said Christopher Emond, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central N.H. “Thank you to Service Credit Union, WMUR and the N.H. Food Bank for their tremendous efforts to make this drive a success.”
Bethany, a young girl from Somersworth, dropped off four backpacks and said she didn’t even get hers for school yet. She thought it was “more important to give to kids in need.”
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and Department of Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut made their backpack contribution to the Service Credit Union Salem In-Store Branch.
“Every student should be ready for school with essential educational supplies but the cost can cause a hardship to some households,” said Wendy Beswick, Service Credit Union Vice President of Marketing. “At Service Credit Union, we have a responsibility to give back to the communities where we do business. It fits into our philosophy of people helping people.”
