Foothill Federal Credit Union (Foothill) annually invites students from the Foothill communities to apply for its College Bound Scholarship. After a careful review process, Foothill chose to award three local students, each with a $2,000 scholarship. This years winners include Maxwell Armenta, currently a freshman at UCLA studying to be an earthquake engineer. Nicole Block, a senior at Glendora High School was awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies to become a Journalist. Future teacher/reading specialist Elizabeth Torstenbo of Arcadia High School was also one of this years scholarship recipients.
Applicants are required to be a Foothill Credit Union member for at least three months before they can receive the funds for their scholarship. The 2013 winners were all able to be present and accept their check at Foothills Annual Meeting on April 18
th.
Because Foothill received so many applications this year, the scholarship committee decided to award four additional students each with a $500 scholarship. One winner, Ben Byer who strives to be a Clinical Sports Psychologist, thanked Foothill in a letter stating, "I am finding out how expensive it is to pay for college. I am learning that every penny counts. It is with your help that college has become possible for me to attend."
Foothill offers the College Bound Scholarship every year. Applications are distributed to local school career centers and posted on Foothills website in January. Applications are usually due by the end of March so that winners can be announced at Foothills annual meeting.
Foothill specializes in serving local school district and hospital employees. The credit union strives to exceed its members expectations. Several credit union employees regularly volunteer to participate in community events. With a zest for serving schools within the credit unions field of membership, Foothill has become a recognized organization within the community.
