Black Hills FCU Donates $10,000 to Storybook Island

RAPID CITY, S.D., July 25, 2018 – Furthering a legacy of encouraging and inspiring children, Black Hills Federal Credit Union recently presented Storybook Island with a $10,000 donation to assist in the construction of a permanent building to protect their antique carousel.
The Rapid City-based children’s theme park purchased the antique carousel in the spring of 2015. It is one of only six Allan Herschell Company traveling carousels in the United States still in operation today. With the help of BHFCU’s donation, the nonprofit will be able to provide a home for the iconic carousel to ensure it is protected from the elements and better preserved for future generations.
“Storybook Island is a unique experience for many familes living and traveling in the Black Hills,” said Roger Heacock, president and CEO of Black Hills Federal Credit Union. “We’re proud to help preserve this beloved activity for children and families to enjoy throughout the summer, as well as during the park’s fall and winter events.”
Storybook Island plans to complete construction on the carousel house in the fall of 2018. Once opened, the attraction will join a variety of other park activities, including character playsets, playground equipment, train rides, and more.
