(SAN ANTONIO, TX – JULY 25, 2018)–– Security Service Charitable Foundation has presented $5,000 to the Texas Diaper Bank to address the diaper gap and its impact on individuals in crisis. The diaper gap is a lack of access to an adequate supply of diapers and other healthcare products impacting physical health, mental health and the self-sufficiency of low-income families.

In 2017 alone, the Texas Diaper Bank helped 32,000 individuals by providing 4.5 million diapers to those in need. This was greatly enabled by some 5,100 volunteers and 40 partner agencies. The $5,000 donation from Security Service will provide over 50,000 diapers to some 2,000 children in need—allowing the Texas Diaper Bank to continue to serve ten counties in Texas, including areas that have an increased need due to the impacts of Hurricane Harvey.

“Year round, the need for diapers, wipes and other supplies is great,” said Jorge Medina, chief executive officer for the Texas Diaper Bank. “The lingering impact of Hurricane Harvey has increased this need and we expect to be providing additional relief to families for the next two years as they rebuild their homes and lives.”

“Sometimes it’s providing something as seemingly small as diapers that makes a tremendous impact in helping people overcome difficult circumstances,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “The Texas Diaper Bank is providing a necessity for children and families and we are honored this donation will help continue to fill a need.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
