Hanscom AFB, MA (July 20, 2018) — On July 19, employees at Hanscom FCU participated in Hanscom AFB’s annual celebration to welcome home approximately 50 service members after deployment abroad. The celebratory events of Heroes Homecoming, including a recognition ceremony, parade, and picnic, honored the service members and their families for their commitment and sacrifices. Retired U.S. Navy Captain Tom Kelly, a 1971 Medal of Honor recipient for actions in Vietnam, attended the private ceremony at the base’s conference center to assist in welcoming personnel home.

“We’re so proud of these men and women who put their lives on the line to protect and serve our country,” said Paul Marotta, Hanscom FCU’s Chairman of the Board. “It’s also important to remember that their families are also serving their country, too, as their loved ones are pulled away from them, often for long periods of time. Today is an opportunity for the Hanscom AFB community to let them know how much we appreciate their service.”

The parade included fire trucks, military vehicles, classic cars, and even the quintessential Duck Boat, from which the service members and their families waved and threw candy to the crowds. Hanscom FCU’s van was also part of the procession, and afterwards, credit union staff handed out ice cream treats to the honorees and their families.
