(INGLESIDE, TX – JUNE 28, 2018)–– Security Service Charitable Foundation is continuing to assist those in need along the Texas Coast after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey through a $5,000 donation to Ingleside United Methodist Church’s food pantry. This donation will provide 500 families with 25 pounds of food per month for eight months.

“We are so excited to be able to feed 500 families for eight months thanks to the generous donation made by the Security Service Charitable Foundation,” said Rev. Gail Danforth, pastor for Ingleside United Methodist Church’s Food Pantry. “Being able to nourish the bodies and spirits of those in need is an inspiring example of how we can work together to strengthen our communities. Through serving, we are served. Through giving, we have received.”

Since January, 2017, Ingleside United Methodist Church’s food pantry has distributed food twice monthly which would otherwise be wasted.  In just over a year, they have gone from serving 20 families to over 200 families in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and are now steadily feeding over 60 families twice monthly with staples, non-perishables, fresh fruits and vegetables, pastries and breads.

“When people are well nourished, they are better able to take care of themselves, their families and serve their communities,” said Julie Balboa, vice president of member service–South Texas Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “The Ingleside United Methodist Church food pantry reminds people they are part of a community of neighbors and service-oriented institutions that are ready to walk through the challenges of life with them.  Sometimes knowing you’re not alone is the most important part.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas that better the community and help to improve the quality of life.
