Northland Area Federal Credit Union raises $541 for The Alpena News to support their ongoing Newspapers in Education Program.  Northland’s Carrie Burr, Alpena, Assistant Branch Manager presented the check at the Lincoln Elementary School, where many of the students use the newspaper as part of their emphasis on reading the written word.  Teachers make the exercise fun by challenging students to find the answers to specific questions such as what time the sun rises or sets that day or what items are for sale in the classified section.

Northland’s Marketing Director, Matt Duthler said, “The Lending Center along with Northland decided to partner up with The Alpena News because we recognize the value of our local schools teaching students the importance of reading and studying local newspapers in the classroom.” As the result of Northland’s donation and proceeds from the newspaper’s annual Newspapers in Education Book Sale, The Alpena News will supply newspapers to 11 area schools.
