Roanoke, VA – Member One FCU recently presented two college-bound high school seniors with a total of $6,500 in college scholarships.

Each year, Member One awards college scholarships to students who will be attending a Virginia college or university after graduation.

The Richard L. “Dick” Williams Memorial Scholarship was named for Member One’s first president and CEO who served the credit union for more than 35 years. Mr. Williams had a passion for sports, especially at the high school level. Member One is proud to honor his dedication to education, competitive sports, and philanthropy with this scholarship. Through the generous support of the Williams family, the award will assist a student athlete to further his or her education at a four-year Virginia school.

The 2018 recipient of the Richard L. “Dick” Williams Memorial Scholarship of $5,000 is Ryan Buxton. Ryan will be graduating from William Byrd High School this year and plans to attend  Virginia Tech in the fall. Ryan is shown right.

The Henry Lee Memorial Scholarship was named for a past recipient of the scholarship, Henry Lee, who was tragically killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.

The 2018 recipient of the Henry Lee Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 is Brooke Leftwich. Brooke (shown above) will be graduating from Cave Spring High School this year and plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall.

Member One is pleased to make a contribution to the education of these two bright students, while honoring the lives of Dick Williams and Henry Lee. These college scholarships are an example of Member One’s philosophy of putting people before profits.
