Naveo Credit Union Celebrates 90th Anniversary by Hosting Wine Tasting Event

(Somerville, MA) Naveo Credit Union celebrated their 90th Anniversary by hosting a Wine Tasting event at their Cambridge branch on Tuesday, May 1. Local business members, dignitaries, community leaders, current and former board members as well as staff attended the event. This is the second in a series of events Naveo is hosting throughout the year to celebrate their 90th Anniversary.

Naveo’s 90th Anniversary Wine Tasting event was a celebratory networking event showcasing the history of the credit union and highlighting their community work and partnerships. The event was also an opportunity for Naveo to bring together their business members, thank them for choosing Naveo and connect them to other members of the community. The event featured a photo slideshow from throughout the years, including images of their founder, original board and special ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Tim Toomey, Cambridge City Councillor and former Massachusetts State Representative, presented Naveo with a citation from the City of Cambridge honoring them for their 90th anniversary. Paul Gentle, President of the Cooperative Credit Union Association, congratulated Naveo for embracing the credit union industry motto of “people helping people.” Additional speakers at the event included Paulo Pinto, Executive Director of Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers, who spoke about the long-standing Naveo-MAPS partnership, and Jose Rui Caroco, Consulate General of Portugal in Boston who spoke about Naveo’s Portuguese roots.

Augusto Gabriel of M.S. Walker conducted the wine tasting featuring a variety of Portuguese wines for the evenings attendees.

"Our 90th Anniversary Wine Tasting event was an evening that allowed us to look back and celebrate the great accomplishments of Naveo over 90 years. It was delightful to hear stories from our former Board of Directors, their successes as well as their challenges, which helped pave the way to where we are today. We celebrate our humble beginnings in 1928 as Cambridge Portuguese Credit Union, when we only served the Portuguese immigrant community, to now Naveo Credit Union, an inclusive community financial institution. It’s an honor to be a part of such a proud organization with strong roots. Here’s to 90 years!” commented Rui F. Domingos, Chief Executive Officer of Naveo Credit Union.
