Cornerstone Credit Union Awards $12,000 in Scholarships

FREEPORT, IL – Cornerstone Credit Union proudly announces the recipients of their 2018 Founders’ Scholarships: Ruth Emily Castillo-Espinoza, Sterling High School; Kameron Ali, Hononegah High School in Rockton; and Jenna Skarlupka, Freeport High School. Each will receive a $4,000 scholarship in graduated payments over four years to encourage degree completion. “Education is key to a successful future, which is why Cornerstone Credit Union is proud to offer these scholarship awards annually to high school seniors,” stated Gail Clore, Cornerstone Credit Union President/CEO. “It is our joy and privilege to recognize these outstanding local students−Ruth Emily, Kameron, and Jenna (shown below) who have demonstrated leadership and dedication throughout their high school years and were chosen for their commitment to furthering their education and involvement in their community. On behalf of Cornerstone’s Board of Directors and staff, I congratulate this year’s recipients and wish them success in their college experience and future careers,” added Clore.

Ruth Emily will attend Loyola University, where she will major in Biology to serve those in need, especially children, by providing selfless healthcare. Kameron will attend Illinois State University, pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders before attending graduate school to become a Speech Language Pathologist.

Jenna will begin her college career at Highland Community College and then transfer to a four-year program to focus on a Mass Communications degree. Her goal is to write for the media to make a positive impact on society.
