Nation’s leading CUSO raises awareness for credit union industry as co-lead sponsor of Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®

St. Petersburg, Fla. — (April 5, 2018) PSCU will come together with credit unions, industry partners, volunteers and more than 200 members of Congress in Washington, D.C., on April 8 to elevate awareness of credit unions and support a good cause during the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a consortium of 170 premier children’s hospitals across North America, and part of the Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD) Family of Races.

Since 2008, PSCU has supported the event known as the “The Runner’s Rite of Spring” in the nation’s capital. The CUSO’s co-commitment with CUNA Mutual Group to underwrite title sponsorship expenses for the event means the money raised will further research and medical care at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide.

This year, when the thousands of participating runners take their places at the starting line, more than $380,000 will have been raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 2002, CUMD has raised over $8 million for the international non-profit.

“People working together to improve their communities is at the heart of the credit union mission — ‘People Helping People’ is very important to us as an industry,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU President and CEO. “We are proud to help finance this event that helps ensure children around the country receive the medical treatment they need, while also helping increase awareness on Capitol Hill about the valuable role credit unions play in their local communities.”

More than 200 members of Congress have committed their support to this year’s Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run by signing on as honorary race chairs of the event, representing 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and Guam. More than 600 Congressional staffers are running in the race. PSCU also proudly sends a team of runners to take part in the excitement and challenge of the Washington, D.C., competition. The team is composed of employees from all PSCU locations.

According to Adam Freehling, one of PSCU’s runners: “It is a privilege to run on behalf of PSCU in support of Children’s Miracle Network. This year will be a chilly run, but it will be worth it knowing a few miles of pain will help change the lives of a child and his or her family for the better.”
