April 27, 2013
The Texas Trust Credit Union Together We Feed More campaign, benefiting the North Texas Food Bank, wrapped up Saturday, April 6, with a presentation of $30,000 from Texas Trust, and more than 7,000 pounds of food. The combined cash donation and food donated will provide about 100,000 meals to north Texans.
The campaign ended with the spirited and competitive Speed to Feed CANstruction contest. It pitted five high school football teams against each other in a fast and furious competition to build a seven-foot high structure out of non-perishable food.
The Cedar Hill Longhorns, coached by Joey McGuire, were crowned King of CANstruction. They were first to build a tower of food that successfully stood for 30-seconds - despite sharp wind gusts that day. The Longhorns received a CANstruction trophy, $250 for their team, and bragging rights.
The Speed to Feed event wrapped up the six-week Together We Feed More campaign, which included a hunger survey, a widely promoted hunger awareness campaign including radio and TV advertising and online promotion, and the food collection.
Jim Minge, CEO of Texas Trust presented a check for $30,000 at the Speed to Feed event, to Elizabeth Liser, director of corporate engagement, with the North Texas Food Bank. Texas Trust also filled a 17-foot truck with the 7,000 pounds of canned food and non-perishable food that had been collected at Texas Trust's branches and throughout the community during the campaign.
The Speed to Feed event was held at Texas Trust's Cedar Hill branch. Cheer and dance teams from each participating school performed at the event to build excitement for the CANstruction contest. There were activities for children, such as free face painting, the chance to build mini-CANstruction towers, and other activities. Texas Trust also provided free hot dogs, drink, and an array of giveaways.
