(MCALLEN, TX – FEBRUARY 23, 2018)–– Security Service Charitable Foundation has presented “In His Steps” Shoe Bank of McAllen with a $10,000 donation that will be used to purchase up to 400 pairs of shoes for children in need.

“In His Steps” Shoe Bank of McAllen, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of McAllen, began 26 years ago with a suggestion from the State Health and Human Services Department who noticed many children did not have shoes or had severely worn shoes with holes. They wanted a way to provide shoes for children in need. Today, In His Steps serves all 30 schools within the McAllen Texas school district, providing 300-600 pairs of shoes annually.

“Something as simple as a pair of shoes can improve the quality of life for a child,” said Susan Hellums, coordinator for “In His Steps” Shoe Bank of McAllen. “Because of Security Service’s donation, 400 children will now receive new, properly fitting shoes allowing them to walk more comfortably, participate in physical activities and engage with their peers.  This will benefit the child, the child’s family and our community by encouraging the child’s continued and uninterrupted education.”

“We are grateful that organizations like In His Steps serve our community and are honored to donate money to help them purchase shoes for children in need,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
