Daleville, Ala. (February 7, 2018) — Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union (AACFCU) has been named the winner of the 2017 Desjardins Financial Education Youth Award, the 2017 Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award and the 2017 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) among credit unions throughout Alabama and Florida with $1 billion and larger in asset size.

The LSCU Desjardins Financial Education Youth Award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy. AACFCU received this award because of its Bee the Boss Entrepreneur Program. This educational program taught students the business principles of owning, running and managing their own business. AACFCU worked with students to teach them how to choose their business, create a business plan, develop a budget and complete a profit and loss statement.

The Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award recognizes the practical application of credit union philosophy through internal programs to improve members’ lives with programs that set credit unions apart from other financial institutions. AACFCU received this award because of its Pay It Forward campaign, which included surprising 50 random people in the local communities with a $50 gift card. The purpose of this campaign was to make more people aware of the value that credit unions provide to all financial consumers.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. AACFCU was recognized for its efforts in fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. AACFCU has been a sponsor of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walks in Dothan and Mobile since 2009. In addition to a corporate sponsorship, AACFCU employees also raised money for the Foundation to assist in medical research and advancements. As of 2017, the credit union has donated more than $145,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“We are honored to be recognized with these awards among such a great group of credit unions,” said Kathy Scarbrough, AACFCU Vice President of Marketing. “We are committed to helping our members achieve financial success and these programs allow us to reach a wide variety of people. As we interact with members of our community, it’s rewarding to see them learn valuable steps that will help them expand their financial knowledge.”
