NEW YORK CITY -- Municipal Credit Union (MCU) has partnered with Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn to open the first ‘MCU Corner’ on the City University of New York (CUNY) School’s Brooklyn campus. The MCU Corner at Medgar Evers College is an interactive banking center designed to provide the school's 6,800+ students with a convenient space to conduct banking transactions without employee assistance utilizing digital technologies, while also providing the school community with a tech-forward common area. The center is also open to the public, providing convenient banking to members living or working in the Crown Heights community. This is the first MCU Corner located on any college or university campus.

“We are proud to bring MCU services to Medgar Evers College with our new MCU Corner at Medgar Evers College,” said MCU President/CEO Kam Wong. “This new concept allows MCU and Medgar Evers to come together on bringing value and convenience to not only Medgar Evers students and faculty, but the community as a whole. Additionally, the MCU Corner will help spread awareness of MCU’s mission – to provide valuable financial products and services to hard working New Yorkers through the philosophy of ‘people helping people’ – to the campus community and Crown Heights community as a whole. We look forward to working with Medgar Evers College and CUNY to bring more concepts like the MCU Corner to life on campuses throughout New York City.”

The concept for this public-private partnership was a collaboration between MCU and Medgar Evers College, who were looking for a unique way to bring banking services, technology, and more communal space to the urban campus. The MCU Corner, located in the S-Building of the College, features an MCU ATM, three Digital Hubs where individuals can securely conduct online banking transactions while also accessing Medgar Evers’ website and student portal, phone charging stations with USB ports, and a seating area.

“Our long and fruitful partnership with the Municipal Credit Union and their generous support was made vivid with the opening of the MCU Corner in Medgar Evers College’s Student Services building,” said Dr. Rudy F. Crew, President of Medgar Evers College. “The ribbon-cutting ceremony for a tech-forward common area with an ATM, a monitor, and three iPads was a first for a college campus. It was a signature moment for the growth of the campus and the integration of real-life experiences – in this case banking -- into our institution. MCU’s generosity exemplifies a cornerstone of our educational philosophy here at MEC:  We believe that institutions of all kinds must create partnerships to solve the daunting challenges of 21st century education.”

Municipal Credit Union is the oldest credit union in New York State and one of the oldest and largest in the country. Established in 1916 and serving New Yorkers for 101 years, MCU has more than $2.6 billion in assets, branches in the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and Westchester, an extensive ATM network, and offers a full range of financial products and services to its more than 425,000 members. MCU membership is open to a wide range of employer groups including New York City and Yonkers municipal employees; state and federal employees who work in the five boroughs; health care professionals who work in New York State; employees of private colleges in New York City and private and public colleges in Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester; students enrolled in a college, university, school, or institution in the City University of New York (CUNY) education system and St. John’s University; members of select industry groups; certain family members, and qualifying retirees. MCU is actively involved with its members and in giving back to the communities in which it serves. It is the official credit union of the NFL's New York Jets and of St. John's University Athletics. It is also the naming rights sponsor of MCU Park in Coney Island, the home of the Mets minor league affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones, where MCU sponsors its annual MCU/Brooklyn Cyclones Youth Baseball/Softball Clinic Series, now in its fourth year. MCU's educational efforts include a scholarship program, home buying seminars, and its Adult and Youth Financially Fit series, which has been awarded the NY Credit Union Association's prestigious Desjardins Financial Education Award for the past two years. MCU is an equal opportunity lender, and deposits are federally insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency.
