Yesterday, members of the Massachusetts Credit Unions Social Responsibility Committee met to close their 2017 fundraising season with the announcement of a record-breaking donation of $185,000, surpassing their goal of $135,000, to their charitable partner, the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless (Coalition). During the 2017 wrap up, the committee recognized 76 Massachusetts Credit Unions and four chapters that demonstrated their outstanding generosity in support for the Coalition through a wide variety of fundraising activities which made the donation possible.

The activities included direct donations (dues rebate and general appeal), the Stephen Jones Charity Golf Tournament, candy drive, chapter donations, convention silent auction and miscellaneous donations.

Five credit unions took a leadership role in their fundraising efforts throughout the year with the following total donations: RTN Federal Credit Union ($26,969); Hanscom Federal Credit Union ($19,113); Digital Federal Credit Union ($11,538); Harvard University Employees Credit Union ($8,567); and Freedom Credit Union ($6,300).

Credit unions including: Boston Firefighters Credit Union; Brotherhood Credit Union; Direct Federal Credit Union; Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union; Leominster Credit Union; Massachusetts Institute of Technology Federal Credit Union; MassMutual Federal Credit Union; Members Plus Credit Union; Naveo Credit Union; St. Jean's Credit Union; UmassFive College Federal Credit Union; and Workers Credit Union showed major support with donations above $2,000.

In 2017, two initiatives, the Blanket Drive and Book Drive, had a powerful impact with 30 credit unions donating 1,036 blankets and 35 credit unions collecting 9,208 children's books for the Coalition and many agencies throughout the state. Both brought much joy to those in need.
