ST. PAUL, Minn. (Jan 8, 2018) – Minnesota’s theme as it hosts Super Bowl LII in late January and early February is “The Bold North,” so it’s appropriate that our winner of a trip to the Super Bowl would be from the truly northern part of the state.

Amanda Robertson of Bemidji, Minn., won the prize package by using her Visa debit card, issued by Affinity Plus, during a promotion that ran from September 15, 2017 to November 30, 2017. All Affinity Plus Visa cardholders who used their debit or credit cards for purchases during that time were eligible.

Robertson was named winner in late December, and details are being finalized now. Affinity Plus’ Bemidji staff will celebrate her win with a party at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the credit union’s branch at 2800 Hannah Avenue NW.

DISBELIEF AND A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS

“I never in a million years would have expected this to happen. When I found out, I’m sure I cried,” Robertson said. “You don’t believe it would happen to you; it happens to other people.”

She also admitted that she didn’t believe it at first when Affinity Plus contacted her “I thought they were joking. I said, ‘Are you punking me?’ ” Officials did convince her, and she began telling family, friends and co-workers, who were just as amazed and excited as she was.

PRIZE PACKAGE

The Visa prize package includes:

• game tickets;

• tickets to the Super Bowl Experience;

• numerous scheduled activities including happy hour with National Football League athletes, a private NFL shopping experience, tailgate lunch with NFL athletes and a post-game reception;

• Visa Super Bowl-themed merchandise;

• round-trip transportation;

• hotel accommodations;

• a $250 Visa Prepaid gift card.

TAKING HER FATHER TO THE BIG GAME

Robertson said that while several family and friends have kidded her about taking them, her choice had to be her father, Dean Robertson, who also lives in Bemidji.

“My parents are my best friends, but my dad and I have a very close relationship,” she said.

“He does so much for me – he shovels my driveway, helps mow the lawn, does maintenance stuff – whenever I need anything he’s there,” she said. “There’s no other way I could repay him but to take him.”

INTERESTED IN THE GAME AND HALFTIME SHOW

Robertson enjoys watching NFL football but her older brother is the big-time NFL fan in the family. They are both hoping their favorite local NFL team plays in Super Bowl LII.

“My brother won’t admit it, but he’s a little bit jealous. We’ve always had a sibling rivalry, so I said ‘that’s payback. That’s what you get. You’ll be nice to me next time,’ ” she joked.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and something not everybody gets to do or see. I’m looking forward to the game and the halftime show.

Overall, Robertson said she anticipates remaining in “absolute shock” throughout January. “It hasn’t completely soaked in yet.”
