Habitat building projects kick off in May when the air seems to tease you with warm winds, then run through the bug spray infested sweaty summer nights, ending in the fall evenings when flashlights are already needed at 6pm. Voyage FCU in Sioux Falls, SD along with six wonderful and giving organizations, including Raven Industries, Orion Foods, Lewis Drug, Volunteers of America, CenturyLink, and Avera Hospital, build homes for Habitat for Humanity for a week each month. The same six business partners have been working alongside the credit union for the past five years. To date, these 7 groups have organized hundreds of volunteer employees, spent over 1,500 hours and have put in hundreds of thousands of nails! The group has met over 2 dozen families and worked with them personally to build them a place to call home. This last week Voyage travelled the area, giving each one cookies decorated as delightful houses and hammers as a holiday thank you gift.
