Affinnity Plus FCU Participating in Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
January 2, 2018
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Jan. 02, 2018) – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is joining Minnesota businesses, celebrities, sport figures and everyday Minnesotans in late January for a Polar Plunge like no other.
Fifty Affinity Plus staff chosen from branches and offices across Minnesota will plunge Tuesday, Jan. 30, during Super Bowl LIVE week in Minneapolis. The special plunge will be held on the Verizon Up Stage at Ice Mountain at the recently renovated Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.
“Our staff love to plunge and support Special Olympics,” said Dave Larson, Affinity Plus President/CEO. “Special Olympics Minnesota is one of our Charities of Choice because the work they do for athletes statewide is amazing. This event gives us another opportunity to celebrate Special Olympics Minnesota and show the world our Affinity Plus pride.”
Two hundred spaces were made available for the general public to plunge with Affinity Plus staff and many others. To continue the partnership, the National Football League and Special Olympics Minnesota also will host a Unified Special Olympics Flag Football flag football game prior to the Polar Plunge Jan. 30.
“Special Olympics Minnesota hosting a Bold North Polar Plunge is in line with the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee’s goals to celebrate Minnesota winters and leave a lasting legacy,” said Maureen Bausch, CEO for the MNSBHC.
PLUNGES AND MORE DURING SUPER BOWL WEEK
The Jan. 30 Polar Plunge is one of a blizzard of activities during Super Bowl LIVE week from Jan. 26-Feb. 4. Daily events on Nicollet Mall will include music performances, programs, exhibitions and food vendors. Super Bowl-related and other community activities also are planned at other locations across the Twin Cities. The Super Bowl will be held Sunday, Feb. 4, at US Bank Stadium.
POLAR PLUNGES STATEWIDE
The Jan. 30 Super Bowl LIVE special Polar Plunge comes at the start of the Polar Plunge “season,” as events are held across Minnesota each January through March.
Affinity Plus teams plunge in numerous greater-Minnesota locations and several Twin Cities metro locations, too.
Individuals and teams raise funds, then leap into frigid water in the middle of winter. Some plungers do it once to check it off their “bucket list”; others do it year after year to raise funds and make memories literally frozen in time.
