Merrimack Valley CU Donates $2,300 to Veterans Alliance
December 1, 2017
On Monday, Nov. 27, Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) presented a check for $2,300 to the Veterans Alliance of Greater Haverhill, Inc. Mike McGonagle, president of the new Haverhill-based organization, received the check at MVCU's corporate headquarters in Lawrence.
The donation consisted of funding from different sources. On Nov. 5, MVCU sponsored a "Stripe" for $1,000 at the November 5th Pre-Election Breakfast at the AmVets Post 047 in Haverhill. MVCU Vice President of Operations Anthony Marino, and MVCU Board Treasurer Augustine Longo Jr. added the stripe to the sponsorship flag at the breakfast.
From Nov. 1 through Nov. 10, each of the six MVCU branches collected monetary donations from employees and members. The total amount was matched dollar for dollar by MVCU. Together, the donations totaled $1,300.
"While we, as a credit union, support many organizations throughout the year; we devoted our efforts in early November to the veterans," said Peter Matthews Jr, president/CEO of MVCU. "Our membership supported our collections, and we are proud that we are able to help veterans right here in the Merrimack Valley."
"Merrimack Valley Credit Union took our request for a sponsorship for our breakfast to the next level," said McGonagle. "Their collection for Veterans' Day was more than we could have asked for, and all of it will be used to help our local veterans in time for the holiday season."
