Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union Raises $11,000 for Disaster Relief

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Nov. 29, 2017) – In this season of generosity and gratitude, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union has completed an ongoing effort to raise money for hurricane, tropical storm and wildfire relief with nearly $5,500 from member and staff contributions.

Affinity Plus pledged to match all contributions, so the total from the Affinity Plus community is $11,000, officials said.

All donations have been sent to CUAid – an online disaster-relief system coordinated by the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF). One hundred percent of donations through CUAid go toward disaster relief for credit union members and employees in impacted areas.

In September, as the first hurricane struck the Gulf-Coast region of Texas, Affinity Plus joined other credit unions to raise funds and assist. As more natural disasters struck there, in the western United States and Puerto Rico, the fundraising effort broadened to include all.

“It was a very difficult year for a lot of people in those locations,” said Dave Larson, Affinity Plus president/CEO. “We were proud to be part of a nation-wide effort to help our fellow credit union members there.”

DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO AFFINTY PLUS MEMBERS

Larson added that Harvey’s impact wasn’t just a distant tragedy for which Affinity Plus raised money. The Minnesota-based credit union has members around the country and world, and identified members in impacted areas.

“We worked with members to help them get back on their feet,” he said, noting that Affinity Plus assigned two staff as go-to contacts for impacted members.
