Missoula FCU Collects 50,000 Pounds of Food for Local Food Bank
November 20, 2017
Missoula FCU can call its "Can The Cats" food drive a HUGE win! The credit union brought 50,000 pounds of food to the Missoula Food Bank -- the largest single donation in the organization's history and one that will directly impact about 5,000 Missoula families.
How did they collect so much food? Credit union and community members dropped off an impressive amount of donations in the collection bins in the credit union's lobby and responded generously to "Stuff the Trolley," a food drive awareness event on November 10. Plus, when Missoula FCU heard about a potential shortfall in supplies, they stepped forward and purchased a truckload of potatoes and onions ... and, it was the potatoes and onions that put them over the top.
But, it didn't stop there ... Missoula FCU volunteered a combined total of 41.75 hours of employee time to the cause on November 10. In addition to staffing "Stuff the Trolley," the credit union sent two shifts of volunteers to the Missoula Food Bank to help package the potatoes for their shelves. Rachel Maki, marketing events coordinator at Missoula FCU, said "we're very proud of this partnership and that our combined efforts can help give about 5,000 families in our community access to nutritious food for the Thanksgiving holiday and winter months to come." They should be -- talk about making a #CUDifference!
