Madison, WI – November 1, 2017 – UW Credit Union is pleased to announce that it has been named a Green Masters status company by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. This award recognizes leading businesses for their ongoing focus on sustainability efforts.

“We’re thrilled to join the ranks of Wisconsin employers who make sustainability a priority,” said Lee Wiersma, Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at UW Credit Union. “Our green initiatives benefit our staff, our members and the community, and the Green Masters Program gives us a great way to measure and improve our efforts.”

The Green Masters Program provides companies with a benchmark to assess themselves, along with actionable sustainability advice so they can work to continuously improve their sustainability efforts. More than 160 Wisconsin businesses participate in the program, including companies like Kohl’s Department Stores, Lands’ End and American Family Insurance.

UW Credit Union’s application for the Green Masters Program was led by the credit union’s Green Team. This group of dedicated UW Credit Union employees from departments throughout the organization identifies and implements projects and promotes sustainability topics to staff. The Green Team chose to participate in the Green Masters Program as part of its MPower Champion project, a fully-customizable program for organizations that want to reduce their environmental impact while saving costs and creating a healthier and more engaging workplace and community.

“Our Green Masters status is yet another way our Green Team puts in extra effort during work time to kick-start a number of sustainability projects,” said Wiersma. “From our Adopt-a-Highway clean up to hosting Shred-It events, we value the positive impact we can make on the communities we serve.”
