(SAN ANTONIO, TX – OCTOBER 31, 2017)–– Security Service Charitable Foundation has presented Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) South Texas with a $2,000 donation to assist their Power of Youth outreach program. Geared toward both middle school and high school students, the research-based program informs youth that two out of three teens don’t drink. This powerful message helps to alleviate some of the peer pressure that often affects youth’s choices in whether or not to experiment with alcohol.

Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, MADD is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving, drugged driving and underage drinking. MADD also supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge through local MADD victim advocates and their 24-Hour Victim Helpline 1-877-MADD-HELP. MADD South Texas serves San Antonio and 47 surrounding counties, helping to make South Texas a safer and more informed community.

“By getting today’s youth off to a good start, we are taking a giant step toward fulfilling our vision of a nation without drunk driving,” said Jason Derscheid, executive director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving South Texas. “That’s why we’re focused on tackling underage drinking, a problem that threatens the safety of our kids and endangers entire communities, now and down the road.”

“Keeping our community safe from drunk and drugged driving occurrences begins with education,” said Pam Harling, board member at MADD South Texas and vice president, payment operations for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “That’s why we believe so strongly in supporting MADD’s youth outreach program.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service's corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
