Credit Union Supports Work-Based Learning Program

Fitchburg, Mass. Shriver Job Corps has presented the Business Partner of the Year award to Workers Credit Union for the second year in a row, recognizing its ongoing participation in their work-based learning program. "Putting Workers on their resum� makes a big difference as to whether the student is hired," said Lisa Crossman, career transition specialist for Devens-based Shriver Job Corps. "Because of the credit unions commitment to helping our young people, students gain valuable work experience that will help them tremendously in their careers." Over the past five years, the credit unions information technology department has provided six-week internships to students. "We enjoy working with the students and appreciate the opportunity to give them workplace experience," said David Thibodeau, vice president, information technology, for Workers Credit Union. Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible youths, at least 16 years of age, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life.
