Lake Trust Credit Union Coordinates Winter Outerwear Drive for Community

Brighton, Michigan – On Monday, October 9, with branches closed for the federal holiday, Lake Trust Credit Union employees skipped the day off to gather for the organization’s annual all staff Good to Great Summit. The day centered on Lake Trust’s social purpose mission: Moved By Good, and the Credit Union’s organizational initiative of operating with social purpose in mind. The team put this initiative to action by working together to coordinate a winter outerwear drive. All in all, the team gathered 902 winter accessories (hats, scarves, mittens) and 280 coats to donate to those in need in their community.
The Lake Trust team, including employees from the organization’s Brighton headquarters and 20 branches throughout Michigan - from Detroit to Ann Arbor to Lansing to Grand Haven - spent time during the day sorting, folding and boxing the items. At the end of the day, each team took boxes back to their hometown to donate. The items were donated throughout Lake Trust’s geographical footprint to charitable organizations like Foster Closet of Michigan, LaCasa, SafeHouse Center, Volunteers of America and Child & Family Charities.
In addition to the outerwear drive, Lake Trust held an electronic recycling event, which brought in 3,547 pounds of electronics such as phones, televisions and computers. Of the items collected, 85% will be recycled, and 15% will be donated to local charities.

Lake Trust will also donate a total of 2,000 pairs of Bombas socks to four homeless shelters: Lansing City Rescue Mission, SS Peter & Paul Warming Center, Bountiful Harvest, and Matthew’s House Ministry. Bombas* is a sock company that operates under the one-for-one business model; for every pair of socks sold, they donate a pair to someone in need.
