Lawrence, Mass.-based Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) on Monday, Oct. 16, presented a check for $30,000 to Emmaus, Inc., a local nonprofit organization fighting homelessness in the state's Merrimack Valley. The contribution marks the 14th year of MVCU's corporate partnership with Emmaus. Peter Matthews, MVCU's president and CEO, presented the check to Jeanine Murphy, president of Emmaus.

"The work Emmaus, Inc. has been able to do with the most vulnerable populations in our communities is astounding," said Matthews. "They have developed programs for men, women, and children that not only work towards getting a roof over their heads, but also equip them with the tools they need to rebuild their lives. Merrimack Valley Credit Union is proud to make this annual contribution and be a part of this organization that has influenced so many lives in this region."

In addition to financial contributions, MVCU is also supporting Emmaus' food drive in November. Food drive collection boxes will be at every MVCU branch from Nov. 13 through Nov. 30. Donations of non-perishable food items; particularly convenience items, such as peanut butter and jelly, are greatly encouraged.

The credit union is Emmaus' largest private corporate donor. It matches the difference between what was pledged and what was collected through year-long fundraising efforts by staff and its membership.
