PLEASANTON, CA (October 9, 2017):  Since 2010, 1st United Credit Union’s “Bad to the Bone” barbecue team has been smoking and grilling up barbecue goodness – all in the name of community.

Co-founded by 1st United’s Chief Operations Officer, Ed Renteria, and Vice President of Compliance, Todd Hoyer, Bad to the Bone has not only donated all their barbecue competition winnings and festival proceeds to Alternative Family Services (AFS), they have also served up feasts for many AFS events, donating both the food and their time. Because of their charitable effort, both 1st United Credit Union and AFS have given special recognition to the team.

At their annual meeting, 1st United’s Board of Directors presented Ed and Todd with the prestigious Rick Castro Award reflecting their support, dedication, and efforts to carry forth the Credit Union’s motto of “people helping people.” Additionally, the AFS executive team acknowledged the “BBQ Guys” (as the AFS families call them) with personalized baseball bats because they continue to “knock it out of the park” when it comes to their commitment.

As Jennifer Harper, AFS’s Director of Development and Marketing, explains, “Bad to the Bone’s delicious barbecue has brought happy smiles and satisfied tummies to thousands of foster youth, families, and AFS staff over the years. Hands down, 1st United Credit Union is one of our most cherished community partners.”
