Greater Nevada Pledges Funds for Hurricane Relief Efforts
(Carson City, Nev.) October 4, 2017—Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) announced this week that GNCU would donate $75,000 to the National Credit Union Foundation to support the relief efforts for credit union employees in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Funds will be come from the credit union’s community support funds and donations from Greater Nevada’s employees.
“The U.S. has some of the finest disaster relief systems in the world to help affected areas within our 50 states. However U.S. territories and other areas with less developed systems and infrastructures can’t always recover as quickly,” said GNCU President/CEO Wally Murray. “That fact really hit home for me after hearing and reading numerous accounts about the difficulties our fellow credit union employees are experiencing with getting basic lifeline necessities like food, water and shelter since they were devastated by last month’s hurricanes. Given our industry’s cooperative nature, it would have been unfathomable for us to sit idly by and do nothing to help them.”
The donations are being collected through the CUAid website, a national online giving center that provides funding for the National Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. One hundred percent of the contributions to the Fund are used for disaster relief, with none going to administrative expenses or other fund operating costs.
