1st United Credit Union Hosts College Internship Program
October 4, 2017
PLEASANTON, CA (October 2, 2017): 1st United Credit Union wrapped up its annual college internship program, sending students back to school with a wealth of new skills and knowledge. This year, the credit union hosted three students who grew up in the local community and are currently attending 2-year or 4-year colleges.
Through the program, interns worked in marketing, asset recovery, and electronic services, learning the ins and outs of Credit Union business. Additionally, students had an opportunity to attend and present at a Board Meeting and to participate in one of the Credit Union’s many community volunteer events.
When asked about their experience at the credit union, the interns agreed that learning how a real company operates from the inside was both eye-opening and educational. From the Credit Union’s perspective, a plus to the internship is that the students’ exposure to banking systems taught them how to manage their own personal finances, an important mission of 1st United’s. “I learned the fundamentals that I wish I learned in high school, such as how credit cards, ATMs, and car loans work,” commented intern Dhruvangi Shah.
Helping our youth develop the skills they need to be successful with their personal finances as well as in their careers is just another way 1st United Credit Union fulfills its people helping people philosophy. “We are so proud of our summer interns and everything they have accomplished during their time with us,” said Lynell Fraley, Vice President of Human Resources. “It has been a privilege to help these young adults prepare for the next phase in their education and their careers. We wish them all much success.”
