(Riverside, Calif.) Oct. 3, 2017 – More than two dozen volunteers from Altura Credit Union recently joined with other local business and community partners to honor and recognize local military personnel for their extraordinary service at the 45th Annual Military Appreciation Picnic at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside, Calif. About 4,000 military men and women and their families participated in this year’s event, which featured the theme, “A Century of Service, ” commemorating the base’s upcoming 100th  anniversary.

Coordinated and hosted by the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, Altura was a major event sponsor again this year. Hundreds of volunteers for numerous local organizations, including those from Altura, help ensure the event’s success. The picnic is free to military families thanks to the many local and military-related businesses that underwrite the costs for the afternoon of fun.

Held at LeMay Park, on the base, the picnic included a barbecue lunch, refreshments, live music, a miniature amusement park, inflatable play structures, live music and more.

As part of the day’s activities, Altura’s Vice President of Business Development Tina Covington was sworn in as an honorary commander of March Air Reserve Base along with other local business and community leaders.

“All of us at Altura feel privileged to be part of this event and show how much our local military families mean to our community and our country,” said Covington. “Personally, it was also very rewarding to be given an honorary recognition by the base commander, Col. Matthew Berger. This is an event we all look forward to every year.”

Altura maintains a close relationship with the base because U.S. Military personnel, U.S. Government employees and Civilian employees working at March Air Reserve Base; and retirees of the United States Armed Forces are eligible for membership at Altura.
