Livonia, Mich. (Sept. 25, 2017) – Showing compassion to others in need is a growing appeal across the country and around the world. At Zeal Credit Union, it echoes through the workplace and beyond.

“We like to give our staff an opportunity to volunteer somewhere in the community once a month,” said Bryan Feldpausch, marketing coordinator for Zeal Credit Union. “As we started looking for opportunities to help, we contacted the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit.

In July, a team of employees went to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit to help stock their pantry for three hours. In addition to the food pantry, there is also a clothing section. Volunteers helped stock shelves with food, organize clothing onto racks and assist people with taking food to their cars.

Founded in 1929, Capuchin Soup Kitchen serves people in metro Detroit with food, clothing, and human development programs.

In September, another Zeal team went to Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor to volunteer by stocking the pantry, organizing food in their warehouse and making a food donation.

Fish and Loaves is located in a 12,000 square-foot facility, the pantry serves residents of seven adjacent communities--Allen Park, Brownstown Township, Dearborn Heights, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, and Woodhaven.

On October 24, Zeal Credit Union looks forward to sponsoring a meal for “Love a Michigan Vet,” which has four Veterans shelters in the Detroit area. Zeal volunteers will host a taco night with a Halloween theme for an estimated 125 homeless Veterans at one of the area shelters.

“This will also give us an opportunity to talk with the vets and hear their stories,” added Feldpausch. “We’re hoping to make it a fun night with Halloween costumes, prize raffles and music. Showing empathy and compassion is something we strive to do every day with our members. Extending the same to Veterans is the least we can do.”

Non-profit organizations in the Detroit area seeking volunteers are welcome to email BFeldpausch@ZealCU.org about their needs and how Zeal Credit Union can help.

Zeal Credit Union is a full-service, non-profit financial institution with more than 61,000 members, assets exceeding $555 million and 12 full-service branch offices in metro Detroit.
