September 8, 2017
MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) announces a $5.5 million donation to Michigan State University (MSU) to support ten university programs over the course of five years. Each year, $1.1 million will be donated to support: Broad Art Museum, College of Arts and Letters, College of Business, College of Communications Arts and Sciences, College of Music, College of Social Science, Residential College in Arts and Humanities, Science Gallery, Wharton Center, and WKAR. With this donation, the university will continue to enhance the services and education they provide to students and provide arts and cultural enrichment for faculty, staff, and community members.
“We are proud to support the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Michigan State University, as these individuals are our members,” said April Clobes, MSUFCU’s President/CEO. “We were founded by MSU faculty and staff and by supporting the growth and development of these 10 programs, we can help support those faculty, staff, students, and alumni that have supported us with their membership while strengthening our community.”
Giving back to the community is one of MSUFCU’s core values, and this gift will help strengthen the campus and surrounding community while also empowering students with increased knowledge and engagement who will eventually pass those experiences onto different communities as they graduate and transition to the next steps in their careers. MSU Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest university-based credit union, offers a full range of personal — and businessrelated — financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni, and their families worldwide, in addition to a variety of select employee groups.
Founded in 1937 by MSU professors, MSUFCU has 17 branches, over 235,000 members, more than $3.56 billion in assets, and over 750 employees. In 2016, MSUFCU was recognized as the #1 Top Workplace in the large employer category by the Detroit Free Press, as well as one of Fortune’s 50 Best Workplaces for New College Grads. Also in 2016, MSUFCU was selected as one of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, receiving the Michigan Business Professional Association’s top honor of Elite Overall – Best of the Best award. MSUFCU has a national reputation for excellence, and was recognized in 2016 as fifth in the nation for its financial education program by the National Youth Involvement Board.
