ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is partnering with the American Red Cross of Southwest Michigan to host a blood drive on Friday, September 8. The Red Cross bloodmobile will be parked at UFCU’s corporate headquarters building at 2807 S. State St., St. Joseph, Michigan, from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

“The idea for the blood drive came from our employees,” said UFCU’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources Jeff Blake. “They are always looking for ways to help other people and we support that. When you give blood you are literally providing a life-saving service.”

Any healthy person 17 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate. Sixteen-year-olds may give blood with parent/guardian permission.

More than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions each year in the US and Canada. According to the National Blood Collection and Utilization Survey Report, about 37 out of every 100 Americans are eligible to donate blood – but only 3 to 4 people actually donate each year.

Appointments are recommended. To register to give blood, visit unitedfcu.com/giveblood.
