Bowater Employees CU Awards $1,000 to Local Non-Profit
August 25, 2017
CALHOUN – Bowater Employees Credit Union member Winona K. Pless, has won $1,000 from Bowater Credit Union to her favorite non-profit, McMinn County Education and Community Foundation (MCEF), where she also serves on the Board of Directors.
Bowater Credit Union has asked its members to nominate their favorite non-profit helping people in the counties eligible for credit union membership: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk. MCEF is the most recent winner of this $1,000 prize.
“The mission of the foundation is to enhance and enrich the education opportunities for all citizens of McMinn County from birth through adulthood,” writes Pless. MCEF works with all three school systems in the county: Athens City Schools, Etowah City School, and McMinn County Schools, as well as with the McMinn County Adult Education program. The organization’s work includes the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which sends a book every month to children of McMinn County from ages birth through Kindergarten. MCEF’s work also includes mini-grant awards to teachers in all three school systems to allow teachers to purchase classroom materials not provided by the school systems.

The Pay It Forward program will continue through 2017, and that means any member of Bowater Credit Union can nominate their favorite non-profit for a $1,000 Pay It Forward prize. Three more prizes will be given out in 2017, and the deadline to be considered for the next prize is August 31.
Bowater Credit Union began the Pay It Forward program in 2010 as a way to give back to the community it serves. Since the program’s inception, Bowater CU has given $35,000 to various charities making a difference in our community. For more information, visit www.bowaterecu.org.
