August 24, 2017 (Greenbelt, MD) - Educational Systems Federal Credit Union recently provided summer internships to three business and finance students. The seven-week program gave students the opportunity to work in the Credit Union's Operations and Marketing Departments.

Each year, the Credit Union partners with local school systems to help business and finance students fulfill their business and finance curriculum requirements. This includes completing an internship between their junior and senior year of high school. This year, the Credit Union hired the following students:

  • Monique Brown, Operations Intern
  • Aleena Natividad, Marketing Intern
  • Sofia Vallone, Marketing Intern

"Our mission is to grow by helping the members of the education community achieve their financial goals and dreams," said Chris Conway, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. "We are proud to provide business and finance internships. The students bring value to our organization with the work they do. In turn, we give them real-world experience as they pursue their career aspirations."

Monique Brown

Monique is a rising senior at Charles Herbert Flowers High school. Her dream is tobecome an accountant and earn her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.

When asked what she learned from her internship Monique said, "I learned how employees put the Credit Union's core values of integrity, competence, commitment and respect into practice each day. 'Where your focus flows, your energy goes' is a quote I live by because it reveals one's ambition. It tells you that whatever you focus on and set your mind to you can achieve."

Aleena Natividad

Aleena is a rising senior at Watkins Mill High School. Next year, she wants to attend Temple University or American University and major in finance.

When asked what she learned from her internship Aleena said, "I experienced seeing how employees function in an office environment. I had great conversations about the employees' education, career paths and lives outside of work. I know I made the right choice for choosing this internship as my main summer experience before going into my senior year of high school. It was a great opportunity to help the education community."

Sofia Vallone

Sofia is a rising senior at Gaithersburg High School. Next year, she plans to attend Montgomery College or University of Maryland and major in finance or operations management and business analytics.

When asked to reflect on her internship experience Sofia said, "I learned how each employee plays a huge role in fulfilling the Credit Union's mission to grow by helping the members of the education community achieve their financial goals and dreams. I want a career in business and finance, and to help others just like Educational Systems FCU."
