Air Force Leader Recognized as a Hero by Hanscom FCU

Hanscom AFB, Mass (August 23, 2017) – A wave of applause filled LeLacheur Park in Lowell this week as Jesse Scego, a technical sergeant with the 66th Air Base Group Security Forces Squadron, took the mound. TSgt Scego was there to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Lowell Spinners game as the latest honoree in the Hanscom FCU Heroes Among Us program.

“In his eleven years of active duty, Jesse received many medals and ribbons for excellence,” noted Paul Marotta, Chairman of the Board for Hanscom FCU. “His dedication to his work and commitment to his country reflects his strength of character. We are grateful for his service and are honored to recognize him as a hero.”

Hanscom FCU’s annual Heroes Among Us program takes place throughout the Lowell Spinners baseball season and celebrates U.S. military veterans nominated by the community. Those who are chosen for the honor spend an evening at the ball park with family and friends – enjoying batting practice, food, and a grand view of the game from a luxury box.

Jesse Scego currently serves as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Security Forces Training at Hanscom AFB, managing and coordinating a four-man team in Security Forces training for 109 military and Department of the Air Force Police.

TSgt Scego voluntarily completed training at the U.S. Army Air Assault School, known as the ten toughest days in the Army. Not only did he succeed, but he also led a junior member unit to graduate, resulting in a 100% Air Force graduation rate.

His substantial deployment experience helps him develop realistic, robust training for deploying members in support of combat and humanitarian operations around the world.
