HighmarkDawn Laskowski, Director of Business Development for Highmark Federal Credit Union of Rapid City, SD recently provided financial literacy training to 150 local students. The attendees, juniors and seniors at Central High School in Rapid City, included many students from Personal Finance and Business Finance classes. Dawn gave presentations to 6 separate classes about Checking Accounts Essential Building Block to Managing Your Money. "Each session lasted aboutan hour and a half, and helped students to understand how to write checks, maintain their check register, and reconcile their register to their statement" stated Laskowski. "I also provided an explanation on how to use many of the helpful electronic services that are offered today" she added. In a separate financial literacy effort, on April 22-23, Highmark FCU is providing aclass tour of their facility to three separate classes of students with cognitive development challenges. The tours will focus on the Youth Week sleuth/detective theme: Looking for Ways that Help People Save Money. Playing along this theme, the credit union will provide each visitor with alittle "Sleuth" moustache from the CUNA web store and a hand-held magnifying glass so that they can really "search for ways that make it easy to save money". The credit union expects the fun should lead to a very engaged discussion after the tour!
